  1. Fascinating bit of historical reflections, Mukesh. Thanks for sharing. Alas, only two quibbles on my part: 1) María Corrina Machado is only the “political icon” for a certain elite slice of the Venezuelan opposition. She is an upper-class, religious, deeply conservative ally of the US empire, who has applauded Trump´s extrajudicial bombardment of Venezuelan boats in international waters and has asked openly for outside military intervention to overthrow her government. She has cast her lot with the likes of Argentina’s Milei, Brazil´s Bolsonaro, Israel´s Netanyahu, and (of course) Trump. 2) It is an egregious double standard that we tend to refer only to the Israelis taken on 07 October 2023 as “the hostages,” when thousands of Palestinian civilians—including children, girls, boys, women, men and the elderly—have been rounded up and taken hostage by the IOF in both Gaza and the West Bank, essentially as a bargaining chip, over the past two years of genocide. These innocent civilians have suffered extrajudicial arrest, torture, starvation and sexual violence at the hands of their captors, and are also hostages in every sense of the word. Aside from those two comments, bravo on your analysis…

  2. It’s s good reflection on the issues of complex project by the name of peace promotions which Dr Alfred Nobel order post society aka generation by picking Norway as a host country for the scared testimony. In the first place the owner get rich not by doing a noble practice, hence expecting the price value free may lead us to naivity .

  3. This is an accurate and sharp and to the point analysis, the usual quality stemming from Dr. Kapila. I hope you can forward this piece to Aftenposten, Oslo. This needs to be read in this country of do-gooders.
    Thank you !

  4. Thanks Mukesh for this insightful reflection. Perhaps there shouldn’t be a “prize” for peace without a re-definition of peace. Peace is not only absence of war or indiscriminate violence/killing or suppression of human rights; it should be about caring, sharing and daring to protect humanity in all forms.
